The money went to the Friends of the School Association at the Tetraeder School in Bottrop, located in the neighbourhood of the large construction site. The association's chairpersons and the school management were delighted with the unexpected donation.

Oliver Knipping was responsible for Martin's work on site as site manager. Thomas Kruck from Evonik Operations GmbH was project manager for the replacement of the pipe bridge that crosses the A42 motorway from Bottrop city harbour. The replacement construction became necessary for the bridge owner, the mineral oil company BP, because the motorway will be widened there in the future. Martin's capabilities in industrial construction, which the Marl Chemical Park has been benefiting from for around 80 years, and the expertise of the construction specialists at Evonik were therefore awarded the contract for the project.

The pipe bridge construction site is a mammoth project that has taken more than three years to complete. Evonik and Martin are now in the process of dismantling the construction site, which will be completed in 2026. The school is located in the neighbourhood of the construction site. So it was only natural for the construction team to donate the collected funds there.

Knipping and Kruck therefore visited the school at Tetraeder, which is located in the neighbourhood of the large construction site, with a well-filled money gift box, a model toy excavator and a large-format group photo of the numerous employees at the construction site, and handed over their donation.

Knipping: ‘During the final stages of bridge assembly in early June, our employees had the idea of handing out grilled sausages to onlookers at the construction site's visitor platform in exchange for donations. This raised € 738.40. We then rounded up the total slightly.’

Kruck: ‘Visitors were able to watch spectacular transport and assembly work taking place over several days in good weather. This attracted a lot of people. The two huge heavy-duty cranes used to lift the bridge sections from canal boats onto the motorway and into position are rarely seen. They are otherwise used in offshore wind turbine construction.’

Headmaster Alexander Wilm, Deputy Headmaster Kristof Hartmann and Peter Malinowski from the school's support association welcomed Knipping and Kruck with coffee and homemade cake. The special school, which focuses on intellectual development, has been awarded the title ‘School without Racism – School with Courage’ since 2022 and is thus participating in a nationwide project. In everyday school life, there are many offers and activities for the pupils and their families, which sometimes could not be implemented without the donation-dependent work of the support association.
