New operating company SYNEQT launches on schedule

SYNEQT GmbH commenced operations right on schedule at the beginning of the year. Evonik's two strongest infrastructure units on the Rhine and Ruhr are now working together in a joint entity.

Anke van Holt, Patrick Diering, Jürgen Sestendrup, Melanie Brieskorn, Karsten John, Christian Loges and Rabea Buß (from left) join around 3,500 colleagues at SYNEQT.

With around 3,500 employees and a turnover of around € 1.8 billion, SYNEQT is one of the largest providers of services in the process industry in North Rhine-Westphalia. The company also ranks among the top players nationwide. Since the beginning of the year, SYNEQT has been bundling the infrastructure activities of the Marl and Wesseling chemical parks.

The company has extensive experience in all services related to chemical plants and other process industries. Its areas of expertise include technical services, energy supply, pipeline construction and operation, secure building and plant management, waste disposal, port operations, plant logistics and firefighting, as well as plant security and canteen operations.

‘SYNEQT is stronger thanks to the joint positioning of our two sites in Marl and Wesseling and, by focusing on its actual core business - infrastructure services - it can serve a larger customer base more effectively in a competitive environment,’ says Thomas Wessel, member of the Executive Board of Evonik responsible for the Infrastructure segment.

The new company also creates the conditions for developing the Marl and Wesseling sites into climate-neutral and highly flexible industrial ecosystems in the long term. SYNEQT opens up opportunities to leverage synergies and attract new customers through innovative services. SYNEQT was launched at the beginning of the year as a wholly owned subsidiary of Evonik. In the future, investors of various sizes may be able to join the company in order to tap into further growth opportunities for the business.

Evonik has been both the operator and user of the chemical parks in Marl and Wesseling to date. In future, the Group intends to focus more strongly on its core business, chemical production. Evonik published the first details of the planned launch of SYNEQT last summer.

The Ruhr area and Rhineland are two established, strong regions for the chemical industry in Germany. This creates growth opportunities within the existing chemical parks. In addition to the high overall level of service, there is also good infrastructure. Marl and Wesseling already operate an industrial hydrogen network and are connected to important raw material and energy pipelines. ‘The start of the 2026 World Cup year is also the starting point for the infrastructure service provider SYNEQT. I know that we are entering this as a team with a wealth of experience, motivation and capability,’ says Thomas Basten, spokesperson for the SYNEQT management board.
